Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 4, 2026 — This page explains the privacy practices of the Islam Yolu mobile app and the islam-yolu.com website, including our obligations under the GDPR (EU General Data Protection Regulation).

1. Overview

Islam Yolu is a mobile app that provides prayer times, Adhan reminders, Quranic verses and inspirational content, together with a website (islam-yolu.com) that promotes it. This privacy policy explains what data is processed when you use the app or the website, on what legal basis, and how it is protected.

2. Data Controller

This website and the Islam Yolu mobile app are operated by an individual developer based in Turkey. For any privacy-related questions, requests, or to exercise your rights, contact islamyoluapp@gmail.com.

3. Information We Collect in the Mobile App

3.1. Device and usage data

The app may collect limited anonymous usage data for crash detection and performance improvements, such as:

  • App version
  • Device model and operating system version
  • Crash logs

3.2. Location data

To calculate accurate prayer times, we may request access to your approximate location. Location data is:

  • Used only to calculate prayer times and related reminders.
  • Not permanently stored on our servers.

3.3. Notification preferences

Your in-app settings (notifications on/off, sound, vibration, etc.) are stored only on your device and are not linked to your personal identity.

4. Cookies & Analytics on This Website

islam-yolu.com uses two analytics tools to understand visitor statistics. These only start running once you accept via the cookie banner at the bottom of the page (fully or via custom preferences) — no tracking script loads and no cookie is set before you consent.

  • Google Analytics 4 (Measurement ID: G-BCTYJ84CHM) — provided by Google LLC / Google Ireland Limited. Collects anonymized usage statistics such as page views, session duration, approximate (city-level) location, and device/browser type. GA4 does not permanently store IP addresses. Data is retained for the period set in our Google Analytics admin panel (14 months by default). See Google's Privacy Policy for details.
  • Microsoft Clarity (Project ID: wak36hg03f) — provided by Microsoft Corporation. Helps us understand how visitors use the site via heatmaps and anonymized session recordings; password fields and other sensitive-looking inputs are masked by default. See Microsoft's Privacy Statement for details.

You can change your preference or withdraw consent at any time using the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer of any page.

5. Legal Basis for Processing

We process analytics cookies on the website solely based on your explicit consent under GDPR Art. 6(1)(a). The website remains fully usable whether or not you consent — consent is never a condition of use.

6. International Data Transfers

Google and Microsoft are US-based companies, and both are certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which rests on a European Commission adequacy decision and provides a valid legal basis for transferring data outside the EU under GDPR.

The Islam Yolu mobile app also uses service providers based outside Turkey to process certain personal data: Google Firebase (Google LLC) for user accounts, Ummah posts, and the database; Cloudinary for photo storage; and Render for server hosting. Under Turkey's Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data ("KVKK"), as of September 1, 2024, consent alone is no longer a sufficient legal basis for transferring personal data abroad — the transfer must either go to a country the Turkish Personal Data Protection Board ("the Board") has recognized as adequate, or rely on the Board's own standard contractual clauses ("Turkish SCCs"), signed and notified to the Board. Work to put KVKK-compliant standard contract mechanisms in place with these providers is ongoing.

7. Third-Party Services (Mobile App)

The mobile app may use third-party services for analytics or advertising (e.g. Google AdMob). These services may process some anonymous data in accordance with their own privacy policies.

8. How We Use Data

Collected data may be used for:

  • Providing core app functionality (prayer times, notifications, etc.)
  • Crash detection and performance improvements
  • Statistical, anonymous usage analysis (only with consent)
  • Legal compliance when required

9. Data Retention

Most app settings (theme, notification preferences, etc.) are stored only on your device. Your cookie consent choice is stored in your browser (localStorage). Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity data are subject to each provider's own retention policy (see Section 4). Any other server-side data (if applicable) is retained only as long as necessary for technical and operational purposes.

10. Children's Privacy

The app and website are designed for a general audience and do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Parents or guardians are responsible for monitoring their children's use of mobile devices and the internet.

11. Your Rights

11.1. European Economic Area (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have the following rights under the GDPR:

  • Right of access — request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten") — request deletion of your data.
  • Right to restrict processing — request that processing of your data be limited under certain conditions.
  • Right to data portability — request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Right to object — object to the processing of your data.
  • Right to withdraw consent — withdraw your consent for analytics cookies at any time, as easily as you gave it, via the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer.
  • Right to lodge a complaint — file a complaint with the data protection supervisory authority in your country.

11.2. Turkey (KVKK)

If you are located in Turkey, you have the following rights under Article 11 of Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data ("KVKK"):

  • Right to request information — learn whether your personal data is being processed, and request information about it if so.
  • Right to learn the purpose — learn the purpose of processing and whether your data is used consistently with that purpose.
  • Right to know recipients — know the third parties, in Turkey or abroad, to whom your data has been transferred.
  • Right to correction — request correction of incomplete or inaccurate data.
  • Right to erasure — request deletion or destruction of your data under the conditions set out in KVKK Article 7.
  • Right to notification — request that any correction, deletion, or destruction be reported to third parties your data was shared with.
  • Right to object — object to a result against you arising solely from automated analysis of your data.
  • Right to compensation — request compensation for damages arising from processing contrary to KVKK.

You can exercise these rights by contacting us at islamyoluapp@gmail.com; requests are generally resolved within thirty days. If your request is rejected, you find our response insufficient, or we fail to respond in time, you also have the right to file a complaint with Turkey's Personal Data Protection Board (Kişisel Verilerin Korunması Kurulu).

12. Policy Changes

This privacy policy may be updated from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will update the "Last updated" date on this page, and for material changes we may re-prompt the cookie consent banner.
